Procyon, Taron, and Suikuaktu were taking a leisurely walk through the streets
of Celadon City. They had enjoyed a calm and restful (Taron: "HA!") stay in
the Celadon Pokemon Center. The next morning they'd taken their leave and gone
off to see the sights.
Suddenly Suikuaktu pointed. "Look! Up in the sky!"
Procyon pointed also. "It's a bird!"
Taron joined in. "It's a plane!"
"No, it's...!" Suikuaktu paused and turned to Taron. "It IS a bird, you
moron!" Taron just grinned.
Procyon shook his head. "It's a Pidgeotto, by the looks of it. What's it
doing flying over the city like that? I thought Pidgeottos lived in the
forest."
"I think there's something attached to its talons," said Suikuaktu. "Look!"
He was right. A large sign, tied to its claws with some string. The sign
read: "Celadon City Gym! Aspiring trainers, visit us now and win an official
Pokemon League badge!"
"Just where we're headed anyway," commented Taron. "Who's the leader? Erika,
right?"
"Erika, yeah," replied Procyon. "Grass type gym." He smiled at Bulletwing,
following close behind him. "Oughta be fun, eh?" The Dodrio nodded
enthusiastically. After its encounter with Borealis' Ice Beam, it was eager to
fight something it was strong against.
"Don't get too cocky," cautioned Taron. "Remember what happened with Brock."
"I haven't forgotten. But this is different. Pleiades was new when I used
him in that battle. Bulletwing is strong. He's ready for the competition."
Taron shrugged. "If you say so." He glanced at Suikuaktu, walking nearby.
"What about you? Are you going to challenge Erika?"
He shrugged as well. "I don't know. I'll have to see I guess."
Procyon nodded. "I guess. Well, is everyone ready to go?"
"Why not?" replied Taron. And with that they were off.
Procyon opened the door to the Celadon City gym cautiously. "Hello?" he said.
A smiling woman greeted him. She looked to be in her early twenties, dark
haired and very pretty. She wore a bracelet on her right hand with an emerald
shaped like a leaf. "Hi," she said. "Are you here to see Erika?"
Procyon nodded. "We'd like to challenger her, if that's all right."
"Certainly. Only one thing first."
"What's that?"
"Do you like perfume?"
"Uh... well, I-"
"Well, DO you?"
"I-"
"Speak up!"
"I said-"
"Make up your mind! Do you like perfume or not?"
"It's-"
"What's the problem?"
"I just-"
"Are you trying to be funny?"
"No, I-"
"Because I certainly don't find this amusing."
"It's not-"
"I'm not sure I like your attitude."
"We-"
"I think you ought to be going now."
"But-"
"Goodbye." She turned to leave.
"WAIT!"
She sighed. "What NOW?"
"I'm trying to say I *do* like perfume!"
"Oh." She smiled. "Well why didn't you just SAY so? Right this way."
Procyon followed her, Taron and Suikuaktu close behind. Suikuaktu snickered.
"So, you like perfume, do you, Procyon? Heheheh..."
The woman fixed him with a withering glare.
"Er... never mind."
Moments later they entered a large room. "Erika! Visitors!" the woman
called.
Erika turned around to greet them. While not quite as beautiful as the woman
who had greeted them, she had a certain indefinable quality, an elegance, some
air about her that seemed to make up for that. She smiled at them and it was
clear that plant type Pokemon could do no better than to find themselves in her
care. "Hello. Are you here to challenge me?"
TBC
Yeah, yeah, short, I know. The battle itself will be longer.
