Darian gritted his teeth in self hatred at his near blunder with Ćther.
"I should have been paying attention," he berated himself, "Ćther might've
survived that if I'd gotten my head out of the clouds." Darian raised his
head, eyes dry. "It won't happen again, that's a promise."
Authroaticus pressed the button on the pokéball in his hand, inflating
it to full-size. "Next one, Nidoking! Go!" With that same gracefulness, he
lobbed the pokéball onto the field. It snapped open in a flash of light, and
the powerful Nidoking appeared. Muscle and sinew bulged under its heavily
armored body. It flexed its massive limbs, causing its toxic spines to clash
against each other with a metallic clang. It lifted its head to the sky
narrowing its eyes in battle rage. "Huroooooooar!"
Darian thought for a moment and then retrieved a pokéball and threw it
onto the field. "Mens'osc, I choose you!" The familiar flash of light
ensued, andan Alakazam appeared. It unfolded it arms and crossed its two
spoons over its forehead in a defensive stance. Although dwarfed by its
opponent, it stood ready forany order from its trainer. "Alakazam!"
The crowd on Authoraticus' side cheered. Nidoking was one powerful
pokémon; it could take on anything.
Authoraticus again made the first move. "Tackle!" The Nidoking stamped
its feet into the ground and launched itself through air at Mens'osc, arms
outstretched, as if it had been shot out of a shotgun. This time, Darian
didn't hesitate. "Dig your feet in and use Reflect!" Mens'osc pointed its
spoons at Nidoking, then swept them away from each other. The air shimmered
in the wake of the spoons, until it formed an almost completely transparent
hemisphere in front of Mens'osc. The Alakazam planted its feet, standing
ready for the oncoming Nidoking. Nidoking met Mens'osc's barrier head-on.
Mens'osc stood defiantly as Nidoking grappled with the protective shield.
Darian's side cheered for Darian's brilliant maneuver.
"Use your Thrash!" Authoraticus commanded. Nidoking's eyes turned
completely red and it started clawing fanatically at the barrier. With a
giant burst of strength, it brought back one of its mighty claws and smashed
through the shield. Mens'osc stood horrified as Nidoking shattered the
hemisphere, unable to counter attack the wild pokémon. With the barrier
gone, Nidoking swung its tail around and impaled Alakazam through its torso
with one of the humongous spikes on its tail.
Someone from Darian's side remarked, "Ouch, that's gotta hurt."
"Let's try that Tackle again, shall we?" Authoraticus said, a triumphant
sneer on its face. Nidoking withdrew its tail from Mens'osc, leaving it
standing there in pain. Blood streamed out of the gaping hole in Mens'osc's
torso. Nidoking wrapped its arms around Mens'osc and pounded toward the
outer edge of the battle area.
Darian had to yell to be heard over the roars of the crowd. "Recover,
then Teleport!" Mens'osc closed its eyes and concentrated. When it opened
them again, the hole in its stomach was gone without a trace. A blue aura
materialized around its body.
Suddenly, Nidoking felt itself hugging air. Unable to stop its
relentless charge, it kept going and firmly lodged its main horn into one of
the torch sconces lining the field. It struggled to remove its horn from the
sconce, but its efforts were in vain.
The crowd went absolutely crazy.
Darian smiled as Mens'osc appeared behind to immobile Nidoking. "Now,"
he said, "use Psychic!" Mens'osc crossed its spoons it front of its head,
and a purple aura materialized around Nidoking's body. It roared in pain as
the telekinetic blows pounded and buffeted its psychic vulnerable body.
The crowd on Darian's side went absolutely wild.
Authoraticus returned his fainted Nidoking. Darian did the same with
Mens'osc. "Well," remarked Authoraticus with a friendly smile, "Your much
tougher than I thought at first."
Darian nodded his head in thanks. "You're not so bad yourself."
The smile disappeared from Authoraticus' face. "This time, its all out."
