"This time, its all out." He held out his third pokéball. "Last of our pokémon, winner takes all." Darian held up Pardus' pokéball. "Agreed." Authoraticus pulled back his arm and released the pokéball into the ring. The light dissipated, leaving a giant Rhydon in the middle of the arena. It towered over twice as high as normal Rhydons and obviously could've taken on the Nidoking with ease. It raked its claws along the ground and bucked around like it was insane. The earth shook as it announced its arrival. "Roooooooar!!!" The crowd on Authoraticus' side cheered wildly. This time, there was no way Authoraticus could lose. Darian bit his lip, desperately wishing he could bring out Mens'osc or Ćther. But he made a deal: last pokémon, one-on-one. He tossed Pardus' pokéball into the arena. The pokéball popped open and the flash of light ensued. To everyone's surprise, Pardus leaped into the open before the light had a chance to dissipate. He was ready for whatever came forward and would not give up. Pardus bared his teeth at the rock pokémon towering over him. The royal blue gem on his forehead glistened in the noon day sun, and his ears were flattened against his head. His tail swished about and he paced back and forth menacingly. "Perrrrrrsian!" For the first time, the crowds were hushed. This was no ordinary Persian, and this was going to be no ordinary battle. This time, Darian made the first move. "Pardus! Jump onto it!" Pardus shot off to the side of Rhydon, circling around it well out of range. Rhydon, being much slower than Pardus, couldn't turn around fast enough. With a few bounding leaps, Pardus leapt onto Rhydon's head. Darian smiled. "My turn," he thought. Out loud he said, "Screech right into its ear!" Pardus stuck his head right up to a large rocky protrusion on Rhydon's head, and let out a rapid series of high-pitched Screeches into Rhydon's ear at pointblank range. Rhydon roared in pain. Each time it brought up one of its claws to brush Pardus off, a new painful screech resounded through its head, forcing it to drop its arms. Authoraticus' crowd gasp in shock at the stunning event that took place. Rhydon was completely incapacitated! Authoraticus grimaced, knowing that in its state of agony, Rhydon wouldn't listen to a single command. Darian smiled. "Keep it up Pardus!" Unable to take it anymore, Rhydon fell onto its side. Pardus jumped off quickly to avoid being squashed under the incredible weight of the Rhydon. Free of the excruciating torture, Rhydon began to get up. Struggling at first, Rhydon rapidly regained its strength and got to its feet. Purple blood streamed out of its ears, and it roared its roared its rage at its tiny target. Authoraticus smiled, now he could have some fun. "Rhydon! Use Take Down!" Rhydon charged at Pardus, lashing its body with it massive tail. When it was 3 meters away, it dived, planning to ram Pardus into the ground with its horn. At the last second, Pardus jumped over the oncoming Rhydon, Slashing at its rocky hide. Rhydon crashed into the ground, shaking a few sconces from their holes in the ground, causing them to fall over into the arena. Rhydon lifted itself up off the ground and charged at Pardus again. Pardus dodged around Rhydon but this time, Rhydon was expecting it. With its huge tail, it smashed Pardus into its waiting claw. Bringing its arm above its head, Rhydon spiked Pardus like a football. The crowd grimaced. "Ooh!" Darian yelled for his dear friend. "Pardus!!" Authoraticus looked at Darian, then said hesitantly, "Finish it off with Stomp." Rhydon swiped the battered and broken Persian into stomping range with one of its claws. It brought up a foot and brought it down on Pardus for a crushing blow. Everything went silent. Darian, who had closed his eyes, slowly opened them. Rhydon was standing there with a shocked look on its face. Pardus was lying there, not moving, with Rhydon's foot right through his midsection. As Darian watched, Pardus flickered twice and disappeared, like a TV set turning off. Authoraticus spluttered in surprise, "D-D-Double Team?" At that moment Pardus jumped out of his hiding place within the coils of Rhydon's long tail. Turning around, Rhydon was even more shocked to find three Pardus' standing in front of it. Darian smiled; the tide was turning. "Use all the Double Team you've got Pardus!" Out of the three Persian's standing alert in front of Rhydon appeared three more Persians, forming a regiment of six Persian. The squad doubled twice more, until there were 24 different Pardus' standing in phalanx formation in front of Rhydon. Authoraticus recovered from his initial surprise. "Use your Rock Slide Rhydon! Keep going until you find the real one!" Darian knew he had the advantage, and wanted to keep it that way. "Scatter! Don't let any of the moves hit!" Rhydon threw itself at the group of Persians but landed on the ground. All around him, Persian's were running every which way. Every time he got a bead on one, it disappeared behind an identical one. Desperately, it waved around its tail and arms, smashing every where it could. The maneuver worked wonders on any Persian that got to close, until there were only 15 left. But the real one was still to be found. Darian pointed triumphantly at the Rhydon. "Circle it and finish it off with Pay Day!" The group of Pardus' formed a circle around the dizzy Rhydon. Simultaneously, the gems on their heads glowed brighter and brighter until they were shining golden yellow. At the same time, they let loose with 15 fifteen yellow beams that met all hit Rhydon square on. In each place where a Pay Day hit, coins scattered onto the ground. Authoraticus laughed. "Your Pay Days aren't even hurt Rhydon, Darian. Now Rhydon, use...What the fuck?!?!" Rhydon lurched forward to get out of the range of the Pay Days but found that it couldn't move its feet. The layers of coins covered Rhydon's feet, making it unable to move. And the pile just kept getting higher. The Rhydon struggled frantically to get out of the pile, but the coins kept rising. Pretty soon, the coins reached up to Rhydon's neck, leaving unable to do anything except roar furiously. The crowd cheered hysterically for Darian's victory. Darian ran forward toward the ring of Pardus'. All but one of the Persians disappeared. The real Pardus leaped into Darian's arms. "We did it Pardus!" Darian cried, hugging his friend. "We beat him." Tears of joy ran down his cheeks. "You're the best, Pardus." Authoraticus returned Rhydon and walked over to Darian. He crossed his arms across his chest and smiled warmly at his opponent. "You did great kid. Thanks for the great birthday party." Darian smiled back. "Right back at you. What are we going to do next for your birthday?" Authoraticus shook his head. "Sorry kid. But you need to go back." Darian's eyes widened in surprise. "Wait, what are you..." Authoraticus put a finger to his lips. Placing a hand first on Darian's head and then on Pardus', Authoraticus whispered the incantation. Go back from whence you came, Your job is done here. Blank be your memories as kind is your heart, Maybe we'll meet next year. A tired feeling came over Darian. With a yawn he closed his eyes, and sat on the ground. He hugged Pardus close to him, who was already sleeping peacefully. "Good bye Authoraticus. And Happy Birthday." Authoraticus watched as Darian and Pardus slowly faded away. He smiled knowing they would go back to when the madness started. Looking up he closed his eyes. The scene around him shimmered. The crowds and the stadium faded away. Authoraticus sat in a chair that appeared before him. In front of him, three windows appeared, letting in the summer sunlight. He leaned back in the chair and looked at the room around him. Behind him, glass French doors opened into a hallway. To the left and to the front of him were three computers. The computers to his left were dismantled, in a futile upgrading crusade. On the one in front of him, he open up a program and pressed the send button. Leaning back in the chair, he wondered to himself, "What will happen to Darian next?" * * * The crowded diner barely touched Darian's mind. He put up his elbows on to the table, resting chin in his hands, and stared out the window. A solid wall of people undulated by the entrance to his booth, reflecting the scene outside the window. The dim lighting illuminated Pardus the Persian sitting in the seat next to Darian, eating a bowl of Pokéchow. Across from Darian, Ćther the Fearow stood perched on the table, snatching seed off the plate in front of him, and Mens'osc the Alakazam sat quietly next to the Fearow, sipping chicken soup from one of his spoons. Darian watched the people move about without noticing them, lost deep in thought. He wondered where he would go next. He had a vague feeling his next location was somewhere south...
